Our Story
Science Defined was launched in response to two significant crises in Mike’s life. The loss of his father to pancreatic cancer as well as the COVID pandemic.
Through interactions with family members, friends and members of his community, Mike has come to realize that whether confronted with a serious diagnosis or navigating a pandemic, it is easy to become frustrated with understanding complex scientific jargon.
So, he decided to launch Science Defined to break down the barrier that is the language of science and make scientific knowledge accessible to everyone.
Once beyond it you can be empowered to take back control over your health by being your own advocate.
Our Founder
Michael Donio is a Middle School science teacher.
He currently teaches 6th grade Biology and 7th grade Earth Science at a classical Christian school.
Previously, Mike was a senior research scientist at a clinical-stage biotech company where he developed anti-cancer therapeutics.
He was unique in the industry in that he has had the opportunity over his more than 20 year career to gain experience in a vast array of scientific disciplines, including virology, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, electrophysiology, immunology, and oncology.
His undergraduate degree is in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Univ. of Mass, and his graduate degree is in Biotechnology from Johns Hopkins.
